Port Melville Port Operations
Global Marine first worked with Marine & Civil to build the innovative floating wharf at remote Melville Island on the Arafura sea north of Darwin. From crane and piling operations in treacherous tides to the ever present crocodiles, this was an epic and exciting project. After successful completion of the construction, 5 years ago, Global Marine has supplied ship berthing and towage services to the wood chip ships, oil tankers and naval vessels that now regularly use the port as an alternative to Darwin Harbour. Port Melville, operated by NT Port & Marine has fuel storage capacity of 30 million litres with an offloading rate of 13,000l / minute at 1000kPa. The wharf is approved for vessels up to 50,000 DWT, has a water depth of 14m alongside and a 220m long dock with a 110m concrete shore connection pontoon. A roll-on / roll-off ramp is also available. Gorgon Project Moorings
The huge and complex Gorgon project based around Barrow Island kicked off with an equally massive dredging operation, with Boskalis Australia utilising up to thirty vessels over a two year project life. Global Marine along with Jeyco and Amog placed cyclone moorings for these vessels in several designated mooring areas around Dampier and in the Montebello Islands.
This was the largest single mooring contract in Australia and was completed on time and on budget with a very happy customer at the end of it. The contract included ongoing maintenance and storage of moorings and hawsers for the two years of contract and now flowing into the Wheatstone project.

Floating Wharf and Navigational Aids for Barrow Island
Global was instrumental in the construction and fit out of a floating wharf ordered by Boskalis Australia to allow small vessel access to the Gorgon project base at Barrow Island. This floating wharf was constructed at our Point Samson Supply Base and towed to Barrow Island ready for installation on site.
Numerous navigational aids, buoys and tripod marks were constructed at Point Samson and shipped to Barrow for deployment.
Several 100 tonne box anchors were likewise assembled at our Supply Base and shipped to Barrow Island for deployment.

Cape Lambert – Port B Dredging
Global Marine’s Point Samson Supply Base was utilised by principal contractor, Van Oord as the storage, lay down and load out point for the massive dredging component of Rio Tinto’s Port Walcott "Port B" project.
Continual engineering and welding works were carried out around the clock to keep up the supply of cutter heads and drag heads that were being worn out at a prodigious rate by the hard rock encountered in this dredging program. Many thousands of cutter teeth were changed out and other repairs made.
Cranes, trucks and other equipment along with trained and inducted operators were supplied daily to keep the supply chain flowing safely and smoothly.

Christmas Island Deep Water Moorings
As leaders in the field, Global Marine was selected on two occasions to carry out deep water mooring construction and installation for Beaver Engineering and the Australian Federal Government. The first for the phosphate shipping industry and the second, two years later for the mooring of Cruise Ships and Customs vessels.
These challenging projects required the transportation of complex and extremely heavy mooring systems from Fremantle, WA and from Singapore to Christmas Island, followed by deployment of anchors, chain and mooring buoys in up to 450m of water. The Islands extremely steep drop off right alongside the phosphate loading facility and coast made this a most exacting and interesting job.
