Salvage and Recovery

SALVAGE "VAN TUNNEN"
Scope of works:
In July 2011 Global Marine salvaged the Van Tunen 410, A 40.6 metre dredging barge which became impaled on Dolphin Island in a storm. After locating the barge by air the Global Supplier assisted the multicat Joop to haul the Van Tunen off a cliff face where it had received extensive damage down one side. We then towed the barge to the closest safe sand area, beaching it to stop the barge from sinking. The Global Constructor came in on the next spring tide, utilising its winches and 50 ton crane, stripped the vessel of containers, cargo and other unnecessary equipment.
Boilermakers from Tidal Solutions and our crew then spent a week camped on site, carrying out sufficient repairs to enable the barge to be towed. A 400 CFM compressor was used to keep a bubble of air in two compartments, while the Global Constructor strapped up alongside and towed the barge back to Point Samson Supply Base.
All debris and rubbish washed from the barge was recovered from the adjoining beaches and islands and no environmental damage resulted from the grounding or salvage.
Thank you to everyone involved for making this such a safe, clean and efficient operation..
